What are the three types of hearing loss?
The short answer
Hearing loss is classified as sensorineural (damage to the cochlea or hearing nerve, usually permanent), conductive (a blockage or problem in the outer or middle ear, often treatable) or mixed (both together). A diagnostic hearing test identifies which type you have, and that determines the treatment.
Hearing affects every part of life — work, learning, relationships and mental health. Growing evidence links untreated hearing loss to a higher risk of dementia, which makes early diagnosis worth acting on.
How much does a hearing test cost?
Most patients pay nothing. Published up front, because nobody should have to ring around to find out.

What happens at a hearing appointment?
Around 30 to 40 minutes, and you leave knowing where you stand.

We talk through what you are noticing, your work and noise history, and what matters most to you.
Ear examination
Otoscopy of the ear canal and eardrum, plus middle ear pressure testing.
Diagnostic testing
Air and bone conduction, speech testing and any further assessment your results call for.
